Freddie Roach admits: Pacquiao's killer instinct no longer the same

It's been more than five years since Manny Pacquiao has scored a knockout, prompting observers to say that the Filipino ring icon no longer has the same killer instinct of his younger days.

Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach, in an interview with fighthype.com, surprisingly admitted this as well.

"Does he have the killer instinct he once had? I have to answer honestly, I don't think so," Roach told fighthype.com.

"He feels that to beat a person, you don't have to kill him or knock him out."

In his last bout, Pacquiao managed to knock down Chris Algieri six times, but was unable to finish off the overmatched American.

Roach has an unorthodox take on what seems to have taken the edge off of Pacquiao, noting how the Filipino's off-ring activities have changed through the years.

"He gambled too much, he drank a little bit too much, he definitely chased girls a little bit too much. But maybe his testosterone level is lower now also. That might be taking away from his killer instinct," added Roach.

"But his wife's happy, his family's really happy. They read the Bible everyday. Probably not the worst thing in the world to do."

For Roach, the trade is well worth it.
