Why Miguel Cotto is rooting for Pacquiao against Mayweather

Miguel Cotto has been in the ring with both Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather.

And while the Puerto Rican legend initially refused to pick between the two pound-for-pound kings, Cotto revealed recently that he's rooting for the Filipino fight icon to win the richest bout in boxing history.

Cotto, who has hired Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach to work with him over the last couple of fights, revealed this in an interview of ESPN's First Take.

"I've been working with Freddie Roach for the last two fights, and I know what he’s capable of doing with Manny," Cotto said. "I think he's going to get Manny through Floyd’s mistakes. Manny is going to take advantage of… I'm rooting for Manny."

Cotto, who suffered a 2009 beating at the hands of Pacquiao before testing Mayweather through 12 rounds in 2012, said the Filipino's explosiveness inside the ring could prove to be the difference.

"I think the explosiveness and quickness of Manny is going to have a big impact on Floyd’s performance. The explosiveness will be an advantage," said Cotto. "He can move from point to point in less than a second." —JST, GMA News
