Mosley: Ariza could give Mayweather strength to knock out Pacquiao

While hailed as a defensive genius, Floyd Mayweather does not have a reputation as a power puncher heading into his May 2 super-fight with Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas.

But according to former world champion Shane Mosley, the presence of Pacquiao's old strength and conditioning coach, Alex Ariza, in Mayweather's corner could do wonders for the unbeaten American fighter.

"Now that Mayweather has Alex Ariza, he may have that unknown strength Ariza gives his fighters so Mayweather might be looking for a KO, you never know," Mosley told ontheropesboxing.com.

Ariza was part of Team Pacquiao before leaving in 2012 in the middle of the fighter's training camp for the Timothy Bradley fight.

There has been enmity between Ariza and Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach since, with the two getting into a brawl before Pacquiao's fight against Brandon Rios in 2013. Ariza was there as a strength coach for Rios.

But Mosley said it remains to be seen whether Mayweather would indeed mix it up with Pacquiao.

"Not all fighters are like that. Some box - which is part of the sport, just more the boring part. So if Mayweather outboxes Pacquiao, and Pacquiao can’t catch him then you’re in for a boring fight," said Mosley. - JST, GMA News
