SEA Games: Gold rush for Philippines as boxing produces five champions

Filipino boxers won five gold medals in the Southeast Asian Games on Wednesday, besting their three-gold haul in the 2013 Myanmar Games.

Josie Gabuco achieved a rare four-peat after beating Thailand's Chumathat Raksat via unanimous decision in the finals of the women's light flyweight.

She also copped the gold in Myanmar in the same division, following her gold medal victories in the pinweight division of the 2009 and 2011 SEA Games in Laos and Indonesia.

Mario Fernandez and Eumir Felix Marcial, meanwhile, both fashioned second round knock out victories against their respective foes in the finals.

Fernandez whipped Tanes Ongjunta of Thailand in the men's bantamweight, while Marcial pounded Singapore's Jia Wei Tai in the men's welterweight for a late KO at the 48-second mark.

Ian Clark Bautista also took home the gold in the men's flyweight division after defeating Singapore's Mohamed Hamid via split decision. Junel Cantancio completed the haul with a majority decision over Vietnam's Van Hai Nguyen in the men's lightweight.

Other boxers who won medals were Irish Magno and Nesthy Petecio with a silver finish in the women's flyweight and bantamweight, respectively, while Rogen Ladon came up with the third silver in the men's light flyweight.
