Team Ancajas says they had best training camp yet for Sultan fight

SINGAPORE — Reigning IBF world super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas says he's coming from what has been his best training camp yet ahead of his fifth title defense against Jonas Sultan on May 26 (May 27 PHL time) at Selland Arena in Fresno, California.

The 26-year-old Ancajas, who spent the Philippine leg of his training at 'Survival Camp' in Magallanes Cavite, will be the first Filipino to defend a world title against a fellow Filipino since Pancho Villa defeated Clever Sencio in 1925.

"Training camp has been really good. We have new equipments added to the gym and we also added a conditioning coach and a nutritionist. I am really satisfied with the gym that we have right now," Ancajas told GMA News Online.

"We now have a punching bag and a ring unlike before when we used to train on a road. I can now can train anytime I please. Boxing is my livelihood, I don't plan to waste this opportunity of being a world champion. This is what we worked for."

Similar to Ancajas, his coach Joven Jimenez also feels they've had an excellent preparation for his fighter's second ring apperance in the USA. Team Ancajas flew to California on Tuesday highly confident with their training and game plan.

"This has been a perfect training camp, he lives right here (Survival Camp) so we never miss a training session. Sultan has a loose defense, we will work on his vulnerabilities and exploit his weaknesses," told Jimenez.

"The team doesn't feel any pressure surrounding this historic world title fight between two Filipinos. We're just happy that Jerwin and Sultan's name are now part of Philippine boxing history. We are excited for the fight and we are more than prepared for this upcoming bout. The hardships we've had only motivated us to work even harder." — LA, GMA News
