Report: De la Hoya’s next foe known in 10 days

MANILA, Philippines – Golden Boy Promotions chief executive officer Richard Schaefer said that Oscar de la Hoya will reveal his next opponent in the next ten days. In a report by Boxingscene.com, Schaefer made the statement in an interview on that was published on the Los Angeles Times. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, in another interview, said de la Hoya is not scheduled to face another Mexican challenger since his compatriots "will hate him for that". That means it isn't like de la Hoya will match up with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. nor newly crowned world welterweight titleholder Antonio Margarito. “He won’t fight another Mexican in his [next] fight. I tested him on that. I asked about [Julio Cesar] Chavez Jr. who would be his easiest test. He said no. The Mexicans would hate him," Arum said. With Chavez and Margarito, who recently defeated Miguel Cotto for the World Boxing Association welterweight crown, out of the list, Floyd Mayweather Jr. retired and Felix Trinidad agreeing to meet him only on a specific weight limit, the question is who de la Hoya’s next opponent will be. World lightweight champion Manny Pacquiao is one of the names being considered. - GMANews.TV
