UST men, ladies win UAAP taekwondo crowns

MANILA, Philippines – University of Santo Tomas (UST) swept the seniors divisions in UAAP taekwondo held last Thursday at the Far Eastern University (FEU) Gym. Featherweight Chester de la Cruz and welterweight Samuel Morrison led the Tigers’ five-win stint to regain the men’s championship they lost to FEU last year. UST defeated De La Salle and FEU by similar 6-1 scores on Thursday to sweep the tournament. The women also produced a five-game clean-up after beating UST 4-3. It was the Tigresses’ sixth championship. Rounding up the top three in the men’s division were Ateneo (second) and FEU (third), while FEU and UP completed the top three in the ladies’ division in that order. In the juniors division, University of the East (UE) stunned UST to claim the crown. UE defeated UST 3-2 in its final game as the Pages won their first title to break the Tiger Cubs’ five-year reign. – GMANews.TV
