Court halts basketball group’s leadership change

THE COURT OF APPEALS has granted the request of businessman Manuel V. Pangilinan and other basketball aficionados to temporarily halt the group of former Surigao del Sur Rep. Prospero A. Pichay, Jr. and Camarines Sur Rep. Luis Villafuerte from taking over the leadership of the Basketball Association of the Philippines-Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (BAP-SBP). In a three-page resolution penned by Associate Justice Juan Q. Enriquez, Jr., the special 11th division issued a 60-day stay order "to preserve the status quo and so as not to render ineffectual and nugatory the judgment..." The Pangilinan group is questioning a Manila Regional Trial Court decision that gave the Pichay-Villafuerte group the leeway to claim leadership over the sports association. - BusinessWorld
