Lanao motocross race to pay tribute to fallen champ Buncio

Organizers of the sixth leg of the Enersel Forte National Motocross series in Lanao del Norte, which opened on Saturday at the MCC racetrack, will pay tribute to fallen Superbike champion Maico Buncio. Buncio, one of the Philippines' top motor sports athletes and the 2011 Golden Wheel Awards' Driver of the Year, died last month during a qualifying race at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga. He was 22 years old. Buncio's father is expected to watch the three-day race, which ends on June 27. Golden Wheel Awardee and first Asian Motocross champion Glenn Aguilar topped both the Pro-Lites and Pro-Open events in last month's race in Dipolog City. Aguilar, who lost to American Tyson "Tiger" Lacey in the Iloilo leg, will once again lead the local's charge. Other Filipino riders who will be competing are Jolet Jao, Jovie Saulog and SEL-J Sports president Jay Lacnit. Also joining are American Motocross Association (AMA) members Jacob Locks, Dennis Stapleton, Daniel Blair, Kyle Matthew Lewis, Jesse Robert Jolson and Andrew John Morgan. – JVP, GMA News
