Gin Kings' Willie Miller to Air 21 for Niño Cañaleta, draft pick

Barangay Ginebra Kings' Willie Miller has been traded to Air 21 for Niño Cañaleta and a 2012 first round draft pick. PBA media bureau chief Willie Marcial confirmed with GMA News Online that the Gin Kings will get the high-flying Cañaleta from Air 21 along with the 2012 draft pick. The acquisition of the draft pick seems to have been done in preparation for the influx of draftees from the Smart Gilas Pilipinas national team that will be available that year. Miller, a two-time PBA Most Valuable Player award winner, was acquired in the 2009-2010 conference to address the point guard issues of the team. This year, Ginebra comes into the season with a healthy group of point guards in Jayjay Helterbrand, Mike Cortez and Rob Labagala. In letting go of Miller, Ginebra acquires a 4-time slam dunk champion, possibly along with a national team member. In return, Air 21 will have an additional scoring point guard option, along with Wynne Arboleda and Dondon Hontiveros. — Renee Fopolan/RSJ, GMA News
