Philta schedules tennis ranking events in November

The Philippine Tennis Association (Philta) will hold two tournaments in November at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center that will serve as a breeding and training ground of the country's future tennis stars. Over 500 promising netters around the world are expected to compete in the Smart/International Tennis Federation (ITF) Women's Circuit Week 1 and the ICTSI/ITF Women's Circuit Week 2. Both events are supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, ITF, PHILTA, PHINMA group of companies and ICTSI. "We have a lot of young talented players who have the potential to excel globally and we're so excited to see them play," said PHINMA chairman Oscar Hilado. "I'm expecting some Filipino-foreign players to also compete in both tournaments." The qualifying draw of the Smart/ITF Women's Circuit Week 1 is on November 6 to 7 while the main draw will be held from November 8 to 13. The ICTSI/ITF Women's Circuit Week 2 will have November 13 to 14 as the qualifying while the main tournament will be from November 15 to 20. PHINMA's next tournament is the International Juniors Tennis Championship Week 1, which begins on November 20 to 21 for the qualifying. The main draw is on November 22 to 27. Week 2 will be held from November 27 to December 4. Filipino-German Katharina Lehnert, last year's crowd darling, along with Filipino netters Marinel Rudas and Anne Christine Patrimonio and ITF Week 1 reigning champion Piia Suomalainen of Finland are expected to return and compete. — JVP, GMA News
