UAAP: Ateneo remains undefeated in women's volleyball



The Ateneo women's volleyball team overwhelmed the UST Growling Tigresses with a straight sets victory, 25-13 25-16 25-17, to remain unbeaten in Season 75 of the UAAP women's volleyball tournament on Sunday at the Arena in San Juan.

Up 23-17 in the third, a Dzi Gervacio kill followed by a Margarita Tejada block give the Eagles their third victory in three outings.

It was also a statement win for Ateneo, beating a UST squad that was just fresh off a win against the defending champions DLSU Lady Spikers last week.

Alyssa Valdez led Ateneo with 16 points, while team captain Gervacio chipped in 13 with six service aces.

The España-based squad struggled to score against the Lady Eagles, with team captain Judy Ann Caballejo leading UST with eight points.

In the first women's match of the day, National University kept University of the East winless with a four-set win, 25-13 22-25 25-14 25-18.

The towering duo of Myla Pablo and Dindin Santiago combined for 39 of NU's 97 points. Pablo tallied six aces, while Maricar Nepomuceno had three blocks.

In the men's division, Ateneo de Manila and University of Santo Tomas posted straight set wins against University of the Philippines and Adamson University.

Ateneo did not take long to dispose of UP, 25-19 25-23 25-16, as Ysrael Wilson Marasigan had 20 points. In the other men's match, UST emerged victorious against a determined Adamson sqad, 25-20 26-24 25-20. Salvador Depante led UST with 17.
