UAAP: DLSU Lady Spikers emerges victorious, halt Lady Eagles' undefeated bid

The De La Salle Lady Spikers fought from two sets down to defeat the Ateneo women's volleyball team in five sets, 26-28 21-25 25-13 25-21 15-13, on Saturday at FilOil Flying V Arena.

With DLSU up 12-10 in the fifth set, Alyssa Valdez committed a service error, placing La Salle two points away from the win.

A miscommunication between DLSU players made it a two-point game anew, before Dzi Gervacio's kill went long, 14-11.

At match point, Jorella De Jesus was able to sneak one in, 14-12, before blocking a La Salle attack to inch even closer, 14-13.

With another chance to claim the match, the Lady Spikers would go with Michelle Gumabao for the kill and the victory.

Ara Galang led La Salle with 18 points while Mika Reyes added 16. Gumabao scored 12 and team captain Abi Maraño tallied 10. La Salle also got much-needed production from other players such as Cydthealee Demecillo and Kim Fajardo, who contributed nine and eight points respectively.

Alyssa Valdez had another dominant showing for Ateneo with 23, while Fille Cainglet added 16 before missing the crucial fifth set due to a sprain. Team captain Dzi Gervacio had eight, but Gretchen Ho was held down to only three points.

With the win, the two teams now have identical win-loss records with six wins and one defeat. - AMD, GMA News
