RP's Gerry Penalosa, Mexico's Jorge Arce in near fistfight

World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight champion Gerry Peñalosa of the Philippines and Jorge Arce of Mexico nearly came to blows Saturday in Las Vegas after the Manny Pacquiao-Marco Antonio Barrera rematch, a report said Wednesday. According to Philboxing.com, Peñalosa and Arce almost figured in a fistfight when their paths crossed while on their way out of the Mandalay Bay Events Center. The boxing website said its sources revealed that it was Arce who challenged Peñalosa to a fight. Peñalosa was reportedly with his wife Goody and Japanese associate Kosuke Washio when the incident happened. Arce was reportedly irked when one spectator told him upon seeing Penalosa that the Filipino boxer is more popular than him. The proud Mexican, the report said, apparently did not find the comments to his liking, and immediately confronted the Filipino world champion. Arce reportedly challenged Penalosa moments after Pacquiao was declared the winner over Barrera by unanimous decision. Acording to the report, Peñalosa was apparently irked by Arce's actuations and tried to follow the Mexican boxer but was prevailed upon by Goody. "Goody looked very worried. She pulled Gerry immediately to avoid a confrontation," Philboxing quoted its source as saying. Goody's quick reaction prevented what could have been a riot as both fighters were with their respective companions at that time. - Sun.Star
