Website includes Pacquiao in list of 10 most exciting fighters

Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao was included in a list of the Ten Most Exciting Fighters in the World – which is posted at www.maxboxing.com. Pacquiao's Mexican opponent Juan Manuel Marquez on March 15 in Las Vegas (March 16 in the Philippines) for the World Boxing Council (WBC) super featherweight title failed to make it to the list. However, Marquez's younger brother Rafael was included. Maxboxing explained that pugs who were chosen "not only put butts in the seats, but put on compelling, memorable affairs." These boxers, the website added, "are the ones that should be receiving our accolades and the most lucrative paydays." The website's writer Steve Kim said that Pacquiao's trilogy against Erik Morales, his 11th-round technical knockout victory over Marco Antonio Barrera in 2003, and the Filipino's match with Marquez in 2004 that ended in a controversial split draw were the compelling reasons he was included in the list. Pacquiao, according to the website, "does have some technical flaws, but to him, the best defense is a great offense" and pointed that trainer Freddie Roach is working to develop more offensive weapons in Pacquiao's armaments. "His rabid following only heightens the excitement of his fights," the website said. Also included in the list are:

  • Mexican Israel Vasquez
  • American Kelly Pavlik, the WBC and World Boxing Organization unified middleweight champion who knocked out three foes in 2007
  • Mexican-American Juan Diaz, the current unified World Boxing Association, WBO and International Boxing Federation world lightweight champion
  • Greek-Australian Michael Katsidis, WBO lightweight interim champion
  • British David Haye, WBA and WBC world cruiserweight title holder
  • Mexican Antonio Margarito, former WBO world welterweight king
  • Colombian Edison Miranda
  • Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto, current WBA welterweight champion
Rafael and Vazquez will meet for the third time in March. Diaz and Katsidis have signified their interest in meeting Pacquiao. - GMANews.TV
