The Philippine contingent to the 2014 Street Child World Cup started the tournament with a scoring frenzy after the girls' team beat South Africa, 9-0.

Team Captain Agot, who hails from Davao, led the scoring with four goals, while Ronalyn from Payatas put together a hat-trick. Angelica of Payatas and Maylene from Davao added one goal each to join the tally.

“The team performed very well. You could see they were nervy at the start of the game, they hit the woodwork several times, but they dominated possession and played excellently,” said team leader and head coach Roy Moore through a press release. “We've all worked very hard in training and you could really see the results on the field.”

Team Philippines' girls still have one more group game to play against, El Salvador on Wednesday, April 2, while the boys start their campaign against Nicaragua on Tuesday.  - Roehl Niño Bautista / AMD, GMA News
