Rugby: Philippine Volcanoes flattened by Korea

The Philippine Volcanoes national rugby team continued their struggles in the 2013 HSBC Asian 5 Nations tourney, as Korea ran away with a 62-19 victory, Saturday at the Ansan Wa Stadium in South Korea.

The Philippines had previously lost 121-0 to Japan and 59-20 to Hong Kong, the latter game having been played in Manila.

Early tries by Korea had them up 12-0, before the Philippines got on board, but the visitors could only manage five points by the break, as they trailed 41-5.

Korea had six tries with four conversions, plus a penalty kick, shredding the defense of the Volcanoes.

In the second half, Matthew Bellenie and Patrice Olivier completed attempts, with Alex Aronson handling the conversions, to get the Philippine tally up to 19. But while they were doing that, the Koreans continued to lit up their foes, tacking on 21 more points for the final tally.

On May 18, the Philippines will fight to avoid relegation against the United Arab Emirates, who are also without a win in this tourney, on home soil, the Rizal Memorial Stadium.  - AMD, GMA News
