Golf: Rodriguez, Superal, qualify for US Women's Amateur Championship

Filipinas Cyna Rodriguez and Princess Superal made it to the Finals of the US Women's Qualifying Tournament, held at the Suncadia Prospector Course in Roslyn, Washington.

Rodriguez, winner of the Sacramento Women's Championship a few days ago, shot an even par 72, while Superal turned in a 74 to finish just a few strokes behind medalist honor Californian Briana Mao's 69.

A birdie on the 14th salvaged Rodriguez's output after going one over following 13 holes. Superal canned two birdies on numbers two and 12, but had bogeys on the fourth, sixth, ninth and 14th.

They were among the top six, along with Caroline Inglis, Simin Feng and Lauren Sewell, who will push through to the finale and join the US Women's Amateur Championship at the Country Club of Charleston in South Carolina, from August 5 to 11.

The last time a Philippine bet won was in 1999 when Fil-American Dorothy Delasin, an LPGA star, defeated Jimin Kang, 4 and 3, at the Biltmore Forest Country Club in North Carolina.

The defending champion is Lydia Ko of New Zealand. - AMD, GMA News
