The PLDT Home Ultera are the new champions of the Shakey's V-League Open Conference after outlasting Philippine Army, 25-22, 18-25, 24-26, 28-26, 15-13, before a jam-packed crowd on Sunday at the San Juan Arena.

The Ultra-Fast Spikers battled through a tough fourth set to send the game into a decider, with Most Valuable Player Alyssa Valdez leading the way for their come back.

Valdez exploded for 29 points while Jaja Santiago and Gretchel Soltones contributed 17 points each for PLDT.

Gonzaga had 19 to topscore Army, while Dindin Santiago-Manabat finished with 17 points. Mary Jean Balse and Rachel Anne Daquis tossed in 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Defending champions Lady Troopers rode on a hot 3-0 in the fifth set, but PLDT recovered and wrestled the momentum away with plays from Valdez and Santiago, 7-5.

Army kept the game close feeding off PLDT's errors, 9-9, but Soltones and Valdez combined to one again put up a 13-11 lead. The Lady Troopers caught up off a Manabat power tip and an error from the MVP, but a quick from team captain Sue Roces and a push from Santiago ended the game. -- JST/RAF, GMA News
