‘Ester’ leaves RP; new tropical depression spotted

Typhoon Ester moved out of the Philippine area of responsibility Sunday but will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon, the weather bureau said Sunday afternoon.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the monsoon will bring rains over the western sections of Luzon and Visayas.

The weather bureau said another tropical depression has been detected 1,350 km east of the Visayas on Sunday. It was last spotted over the Caroline Islands.

As of Sunday afternoon, Pag-asa said "Ester" was estimated to be 800 km north-northeast of Basco, Batanes, or 210 km northwest of Okinawa, Japan.

It had maximum sustained winds of 150 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kph. It was moving northward at 21 kph.

It was forecast to be 450 km north-northwest of Okinawa Sunday evening. - GMANews.TV
