Teehankee leaves NBP compound - report

October 8, 2008 8:07pm
MANILA, Philippines - Convicted killer Claudio Teehankee Jr walked out a free man from the New Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa City Wednesday night, a radio report said.

Radio dzBB's Lito Laparan cited information from penitentiary chaplain Roberto Olaguer that Teehankee used a rear exit to avoid mediamen.

Olaguer said Teehankee left the Ina ng Awa Parish shortly after 7 p.m.

Conflicting reports said that Teehankee was fetched by a pick-up truck with a red plate number SEW750. Other reports however said he left through a motorcycle.

Teehankee was convicted of murder for the death of Maureen Hultman, then 17 years old; of homicide for the death of Roland John Chapman, 21; and of frustrated murder for the wounding of Jussi Leino, 24.

President Arroyo approved the granting of executive clemency to Teehankee by virtue of a letter dated October 2 to the Office of the National Bilibid Prisons Director. He had been in prison since 1991, the year he committed the crimes.

Teehankee's release triggered an uproar from the aggrieved party, including Hultman's parents. - GMANews.TV
