Human skeleton unearthed in Ermita

MANILA, Philippines — A human skeleton believed to be that of a soldier buried during the World War II was unearthed at a construction site of the Department of Tourism compound in Ermita, Manila, police said on Saturday.

Detective Crispin Ocampo of Manila Police District’s homicide section said an M1 Grenade rifle and several pieces of mortar were found along with the skeleton.

Ocampo said the find were dug up at the DOT compound on Kalaw Street at 3 p.m. Friday.

He said the skeleton was brought to the Popular Funeral Homes while the mortars and rifle were placed under the police custody.
