Schoolteachers learn how to recycle lab tools
MANILA, Philippines — Some 160 public elementary and secondary science teachers from the National Capital Region have taken part in a regional training workshop on recyclable laboratory tools at the Marikina Hotel in Marikina City.
Spearheaded by the Department of Education and the Marikina city government, the regional training program focused on the improvisation, repair, maintenance and proper use of laboratory equipment.
During the workshop, participants learned to make lab tools such as beam balance, anemometer, tripod, alcohol burner and even a microscope from recyclable materials.
DepEd-NCR Supervisor Aurora Franco stressed that with the ingenuity of teachers and students, there’s no limit to what the teachers can do with recyclable materials like PVC pipes, plastic cups, soda pop cans and cardboard.
She added that some schools lack in laboratory equipment now they can easily compensate with tools ingeniously crafted from recyclables.
The workshop was capped by a presentation of laboratory devices by teacher-participants. - GMANews.TV
