MANILA, Philippines - Two suspected motorcycle-riding robbers were gunned down following a shootout with police in Marilao town in Bulacan province, a radio report said Thursday night.

According to radio dzBB's Roque Merilles report, the two, who were riding in tandem, engaged police in a chase and firefight after running through a checkpoint in Loma de Gato village.

Central Luzon police director Chief Supt. Leon Nilo de la Cruz said police initially identified one of the slain suspects as Butch Butin.

Initial investigation showed the two were subjects of follow-up operations after they allegedly robbed an Indian national.

The two ran the checkpoint at Loma de Gato village and led police through a chase that ended in a shootout in Prenza I village.

Recovered from the suspects were a 9-mm pistol and a cal-.38 revolver, and their motorcycle. - GMANews.TV
