February 7, 2009 2:18pm
MANILA, Philippines – University of Santo Tomas marched to another victory this time against National University, 25-14, 25-12, 25-19, Saturday in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) men’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

John Paul Torres and Jayson Ramos each had 11 points as the Tigers continued their unbeaten run that now stands at 12 games.

The Tigers seek for the sweep of the elimination round when they face University of the East on February 11 and Ateneo on February 14. A sweep will give the Tigers an outright finals seat.

Joseph Parba atoned for only seven points while Ariel Kenneth Baloaloa had six points as the Bulldogs are still winless after 12 games.

In the second game, University of the Philippines downed University of the East, 15-25, 25-12, 25-17, 25-21.

Lloyd Belgado finished with 16 points, Jan Paolo Martinez had 12 and Dominico Lucido and Michael Jordan Arda added 10 each for the Fighting Maroons.

UP, which is in third position with a 9-4 mark, along with De La Salle, owning a 9-3 mark, have already sealed final-four berths following victories last Wednesday.

The Fighting Maroons overcame a two-set deficit to beat Far Eastern University, 22-25, 15-25, 25-23, 25-15, 15-11, while the Green Archers beat Adamson, 22-25, 25-13, 25-23, 25-18.

Ateneo, which currently holds fourth place with 7-4, tries to clinch the last Final Four spot against Adamson on Sunday, 9:00 a.m. at The Arena.

The Falcons, however, are also looking to earn a semis ticket with a 5-7 mark but must beat the Blue Eagles first in order to get a shot.

FEU, which is tied with Adamson at 5-7, also seeks to stay in final-four contention against De La Salle at 11:00 a.m. – GMANews.TV
