Pacquiao appeals to Comelec to ensure safe, fair polls in 2010

February 26, 2009 3:07pm
MANILA, Philippines — Filipino boxing icon Emmanuel “Manny" Pacquiao on Thursday called on the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to ensure clean and peaceful elections in 2010, a local radio report said.

Pacquiao said the election body should exhaust all means to perform its job so that the public will not lose its confidence in the institution.

He also said he would not side with any politicians as he is for the truth and he wants to ensure fair polls.

At the same time, Pacquiao appealed to the members of media to help him in this “personal advocacy."

Pacquiao ran for a congressional seat in South Cotabato in 2007 elections, but lost to incumbent Rep. Darlene Antonino-Custodio. He is set to try his luck again in politics in the 2010 polls, this time running for congressman for Sarangani province.

Pacquiao said when he ran in 2007 he gave Custodio a fair and clean fight and he vowed do the same again in the incoming polls. - Aie Balagtas See, GMANews.TV
