Guevarra plays true to form, tops snooker tilt

MANILA, Philippines - Benjie Guevarra lived up to his tag the as country’s top snooker player as he ruled the 6-Red snooker event of the 2009 Snooker and Carom Challenge Sunday at the Billiards and Snooker Congress of the Philippines Academy at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila. Gueverra, the 2007 Southeast Asian Games silver medalist in the event, stamped his class over veteran James Al Ortega, 4-1, to pocket the crown. “Masaya ako sa pagkakaroon sa wakas ng snooker tournament matapos ang mahabang panahon, at mas lalong masaya ako dahil ako ang nanalo. Magandang preparasyon ito para sa SEA Games," said the 30-year-old Guevarra, a long-time national team mainstay and a member of the Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines (BMPAP). Guevarra won the first three frames with a 42-point average against the 17.6 points of Ortega, a SEA Games bronze medalist. Meanwhile, veteran Reynaldo Grandea bested Luis Saberdo for the title in the Carmon 1-carom cushion event. -GMANews.TV
