Jalosjos considers becoming political adviser of Dapitan mayor
MANILA, Philippines - Convicted rapist and former Zamboanga del Norte representative Romeo Jalosjos on Saturday said that he is considering becoming the political adviser of his brother, the mayor of Dapitan.
Jalosjos was freed Thursday for Good Conduct Time Allowance after serving only 13 years of two life sentences at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa.
GMA reporter Rida Reyes quoted Jalosjos as saying that since he cannot enter politics anymore, he is seriously considering becoming the political adviser of Dapitan Mayor Dominador Jalosjos.
Jalosjos is set to arrive at Dapitan in Zamboanga del Norte late Saturday with his wife and three daughters – where people have reportedly prepared a parade and a mass to welcome the former congressman.
The wealthy politician was slapped with two life terms following his guilty verdict, but on June 12, 2007, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo commuted his jail term to 16 years, three months, and three days.
The period of Jalosjos’ incarceration, however, was further reduced to 13 years, five months, and 15 days because of his Good Conduct Time Allowance.
During his 13-year stay at the NBP, Jalosjos enjoyed a luxurious life.
He financed the construction of several establishments within the NBP, including a tennis court, a gymnasium, and a bakery inside the maximum security compound. Outside the complex, he had the Tennis Academy of the Philippines built, as well as a resto-bar in Katarungan Village.- Kimberly Jane T. Tan, GMANews.TV
