MANILA , Philippines – A policeman and a female teacher were killed while six of her colleagues were hurt after figuring in a road accident in Albay province, a police official said Tuesday.

The police fatality was identified as Senior Police Officer (SPO) 1 Henry Ceneta, 54, of the Tiwi municipal station. He was driving his motorcycle in Barangay Tuliw in Malinao town when it smashed into a tricycle last March 20.

Evelyn Plandes, one of the passengers of the tricycle, died in the hospital after sustaining serious head injuries, Senior Superintendent Robert Capus, acting chief of the Malinao Police, told GMANews.TV in a phone interview.

Plandes’s wounded colleagues were identified as Mary Ann Lanosa, Salvacion Kasim, Ma. Concepcion Cascante, Nona Careo, Elisa Borlagdan, and Concepcion Borbe. All the teachers were from the Estancia Elementary School, Capus said.

All the victims were rushed to a nearby hospital in Tabaco City but the lawman was declared dead on arrival. Plandes later succumbed to her injuries.

Capus said they have released the driver of the tricycle, Jesus Cantillo, but assured that charges would be filed against him. “Ni-release muna naming pero [We had released him but] we are preparing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide," he said.
