MANILA, Philippines â Hong Kong had the highest turnout of overseas Filipino workers who registered to vote in the 2010 elections, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Tuesday. The DFA said the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong registered its highest turnout of Overseas Absentee Voter registrants since registration started Feb. 1. "This was a result of the combined registration activities in the Philippine Consulate General premises in Admiralty and the field registration in St. Josephâs Church in Garden Road, Central," the DFA said on its website (www.dfa.gov.ph) It said there had been 754 new applicants since the registration started last Feb. 1. As of April 23, the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong has processed a total of 5,753 new OAV applications, the DFA said. The DFA said the Philippine consulate general in Hong Kong continues to maintain the lead among all Foreign Service Posts worldwide in registering new applicants for the OAV for the Philippine national elections in 2010. A summary report prepared by the OAV Secretariat of the DFA on April 23 showed Hong Kong PCG registered a total of 5,753 new OAVs. "It has been in the top rank worldwide since February 26," the DFA said. The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong has been conducting field registrations in various locations in Hong Kong such as St. Josephâs Church in Garden Road, Central (March 22 and April 19); The Church of Annunciation, Tsuen Wan (March 29); Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Yuen Long, New Territories April 4); and, El Shaddai in Sungtsun Catholic Primary and Secondary School, Sai Kung on (April 5). Two simultaneous field registrations were also conducted on April 26 in St. Francis Church in Maon Shan and St. Vincentâs Church in Hang Hau. - GMANews.TV
