May 22, 2009 11:15am
MANILA, Philippines - Five of 11 fishermen who went missing after leaving for Scarborough Shoal last May 1 have been rescued, a radio report said Friday.

Bombo Radyo reported that the Philippine Embassy in Beijing relayed the information to a relative of the missing fishermen.

The Embassy identified the five rescued fishermen as Jimmy Bakar, David Querubin, Israel Dumor, Ariel delos Angeles, and Wilson Itak.

The Infanta town government and the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council said they would contact the Chinese Embassy in Manila to verify the information.

On the other hand, local authorities said they would continue their search operations, especially for the six who remain missing.
