Filipino Asian Youth Games player has swine flu, says Singapore
SINGAPORE — A Philippines soccer player preparing for the Asian Youth Games has contracted swine flu, Singapore's health ministry said Saturday.
The ministry said in a statement that the player, in Singapore for the event, had been hospitalized in stable condition, and his close contacts quarantined.
The ministry did not release the player's name or age.
Games involving the Philippines team were postponed, but the rest of the tournament will continue as scheduled from June 29 to July 7.
Singapore is hosting the first Asian Youth Games which feature 1,300 athletes aged 14 to 17 from 45 countries competing in nine sports.
