Ateneo will try to secure the third semifinals berth in the 72nd UAAP women’s volleyball tournament when it collides with University of the East as second round action resumes Saturday at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Roger Gorayeb-coached Lady Eagles currently occupies third place with an 8-4 card behind the clean slate of defending champion La Salle (11-0) and UST’s second-best 10-2 mark. An Ateneo victory against the already out of contention UE will strengthen the Lady Eagles’ hold of the No. 3 spot and put some distance between them and the Adamson Lady Falcons, who is in fourth with a 7-4 card. Adamson will be facing the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons with Adamson hoping to nail win No. 8 that would give them a three-game advantage against fifth placer Far Eastern University. FEU needs to sweep its last three games and hope that Ateneo and Adamson loss their remaining matches to secure a spot in the semifinal round.
