4 dead, 4 hurt in Cebu province road crash
Four people were killed, three of them children, in a road crash in Tuburan town in Cebu province last Friday afternoon, police said on Saturday.
A police report reaching Camp Crame in Quezon City said that a speeding pick-up vehicle rammed through parked tricycle and a bike and a group of people holding a prayer vigil in Tuburan.
The report identified the fatalities as 10-year old Janine Oros and 7-year old Janine Tahanlangit, who died on the spot due to serious injuries; 14-year old Jessica Sayson and 34-year old woman Levi Tapil, who died at the Tuburan Hospital.
Those injured were 5-year old Richard Tapil, 12-year old Daisy Mae Tapil, 34-year old Gina Tapil and 10-year old James Lester Gecain.
The victims were on a prayer vigil along a road in Barangay Fortaliza at 7:30 p.m. when a pick-up vehicle driven by a certain Anthony Cabintoy rammed the parked tricycle and a bike and crashed into the group of people nearby, killing and injuring mostly the children.
Cabintoy reportedly fled after the crash and is now being hunted by the police.
Police investigators are now on the case to determine the cause of the incident and to prepare possible charges against the pick-up driver.
In recent days, police have recorded several deadly road crashes including those in La Union which killed 12 people, followed by the smashups in North Cotabato wherein nine people died, then in Bataan road accident where seven were killed, and the one in Quezon province wherein four people died. — LBG, GMANews.TV
