Korean yacht runs aground in La Union
A Korean pleasure yacht ran aground off San Fernando in La Union province before dawn Monday, but no one was reported injured in the incident.
The Philippine Coast Guard said Tuesday the 3.17-gross ton "Nomad Korea" skippered by Kim Woo, a Korean National, ran aground off the Poro Point pier of Philex Mining Corp., the country’s largest gold and copper producer.
Investigation showed the incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m., when the captain decided to take shelter at San Fernando Port due to rough seas and big waves.
When he dropped anchor, big waves battered the yacht and dragged it until it ran aground near Philex Pier.
A Coast Guard team managed to tow the yacht and bring it to a nearby floating buoy.
"The Captain intends to proceed back to Subic, Zambales to properly check/assess the extent of the damage and provisions before going back to Korea," the Coast Guard said. - GMANews.TV
