Police Involved in Crimes
Maki Pulido and Jiggy Manicad Report

The police is at the forefront of law enforcement. But in some instances, they are accused of breaking the law or committing crimes.

According to the records of the Philippine National Police, in the past six weeks there have been 14 cases of crimes which some of their members have allegedly committed. One of the latest incidents is the reported rape of a vendor inside the Manila Police District office.

In 2010, more that 2,000 administrative cases have been filed against police officers. How does the leadership of PNP address these cases of their own members?

PUBLIC ATTORNEY'S OFFICE
Rhea Santos Reports

The Public Attorney's Office or PAO is the government agency mandated to provide free legal assitance to those in poverty.

The number of free legal assistance which PAO has provided decreased from 5 million in 2008 to 4 million in 2009.

In 2008, PAO handled more than 700,000 cases but it decreased to almost 600,000 in 2009.

What are the problems besieging PAO to fully perform their function?

PULIS SA KRIMEN

Ulat nina Maki Pulido at Jiggy Manicad
