‘Honasan letter’ fake, says Macahiya
A spokesman for fugitive Sen. Gregorio Honasan on Saturday said the letter reportedly expressing the former lawmaker’s intention to surrender was fake.
Ernesto Macahiya, also spokesman for Honasan’s Philippine Guardian Brotherhood Inc., said Honasan did not get the services of Atty. Oliver Lozano.
Lozano claimed he received a letter from Honasan, expressing willingness to face coup charges.
“The letter Lozano supposedly received was a fake. Lozano has no business representing the former senator," Macahiya said.
Macahiya did not comment on whether Honasan has plans to surrender.
The government put up a P5-million bounty for the arrest of Honasan who has gone into hiding since March 1, after the Makati City regional trial court issued the arrest warrant.
The former lawmaker was charged with rebellion for allegedly masterminding the failed Oakwood mutiny on July 27, 2003.
The government also put up a P1-million reward for retired Navy Capt. Felix Turingan and P500,000 each for Macahiya, Virgillo Briones, Romeo Lazo.
Another P250,000 each for the arrest of George Duldulao and Lina Reyes.
Honasan and Turingan are linked to last month’s failed plan to overthrow the Arroyo administration.
