PNP bares traffic rerouting plans in QC for SONA

July 22, 2011 8:47am
Motorists passing near the Batasan Complex in Quezon City may have to follow traffic rerouting plans on Monday, in time for President Benigno Aquino III's second State of the Nation Address.

The Metro Manila police advised motorists to avoid the Batasan Complex area and take alternate routes to avoid inconvenience.

For its part, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority will deploy at least 1,100 personnel along Commonwealth Avenue starting 5 a.m. Monday to guide motorists on the rerouting.

"5 a.m. pa lang naroon sa area para sa traffic management. Meron din kaming civil disturbance unit malapit sa St. Peter's Church (Our traffic aides will be at their assignments 5 a.m. We will also have a civil disturbance team near St. Peter's Church)," MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino said in an interview on dwIZ radio Friday.

In a news release, Metro Manila police head Chief Superintendent Alan Purisima said the southbound part of Commonwealth Avenue southbound will be open to traffic the whole day.

However, four lanes of Commonwealth Avenue's southbound part from the Shopwise U-turn slot until the San Simon U-turn slot will be for northbound vehicles.

Purisima also said the concrete barriers at Convergy’s U-turn slot will be removed at 12:01 a.m. Monday, so VIPs going to the Sandiganbayan Building can pass through.
