Suspected rebel killed in Zambo clash — police

A suspected rebel was killed Tuesday morning in a clash between government troops and supposed armed insurgents in Zamboanga City.

Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr, Philippine National Police spokesman, said the encounter transpired at Sitio Tambak at Barangay Landang Laum on Sacol Island at about 9 a.m.

The firefight happened between members of the regional development council of Task Force Zamboanga and some 15 combined members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the Abu Sayyaf group led by a certain Imbran.

The encounter lasted for about 30 minutes, Cruz said. No one was hurt on the government side. - Mark D. Merueñas/KBK, GMA News
