4 teenaged males caught with high-powered guns, detained

October 27, 2011 11:42pm
Quezon City police detained four youths in possession of high caliber firearms early Thursday morning, according to a report on GMA News’ “24 Oras."

Two of the four male adolescents are linked to a December murder of three men in Quezon City, the report added. Police said they have witnesses to implicate the two in the murders.

Past midnight on Thursday morning, QCPD chased a red sports car bearing two of the suspects during an operation in Barangay Holy Spirit, Quezon City. Days prior to the operation, residents had been complaining of gunshots at night.

The two then fled to a house in the barangay where the other two adolescents, one of them a 16-year-old, was in. After being caught, police found in their possession several high-caliber weapons.

Authorities are also looking into the possibility that a syndicate is involved in the case.

The suspects will be charged with illegal possession of firearms, as the police investigate if the firearms are registered and to whom they are registered to. The 16-year-old minor will be turned over to the city’s Social Welfare department.

“Siguro sa nakikita natin ngayon, they were minors but they were carrying high powered guns. Ang masasabi ko dito, [kailangan] pagaralan natin mabuti ang RA 9344," he said.

RA 9344 is the Juvenile Justice Welfare Act, which provides that children “fifteen (15) years of age or under at the time of the commission of the offense shall be exempt from criminal liability."

This law also states that minors “above fifteen (15) years but below eighteen (18) years of age shall likewise be exempt from criminal liability and be subjected to an intervention program, unless he/she has acted with discernment." — BC/ELR. GMA News
