Not all Pinoys in Dubai happy over Pacquiao's victory
Not all Filipino boxing fans in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were happy over the win of Saranggani Rep. and boxing icon Manny Pacquiao over Juan Manuel Marquez in the United States on Saturday (Sunday in the Philippines). According to a report of Sport 360, Pacquiao may have held on to his WBO welterweight title after beating Marquez, but his Filipino boxing fans were split in accepting his controversial victory. The report said some Filipinos "could not hide their disappointment after the judgesâ scorecards announced that pound-for-pound king Pacquiao was the winner via a majority decision as they believed Marquez had won the fight." Some fans watched at the Boracay Club in Asiana Hotel in Dubai the live telecast of the fight from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The report quoted Filipino Press Club-UAE president Ares Gutierrez as saying it was a sad day for boxing. "Sorry, I'm also rooting for Pacquiao, but this bout is not his. Marquez won the fight but Manny won in the scorecards," Gutierrez was quoted as saying. However, other fans believed that Pacquiao won fair and square. The report quoted two personal trainers â Cuña Nawa and Nikko Andrew Fajardo â as sayiong it was a close fight that Pacquiao won. They noted that the point system is used in boxing. "Pacquiao was always on the attack and that mattered most for the judges," the trainers said in the report. Pacquiao, 32, is an eight-division world champion and has 10 world titles. Pacquiao is the WBO Welterweight World Champion (Super Champion). He is also rated as the "number one" pound-for-pound best boxer in the world by most sporting news and boxing websites. On the other hand, Marquez, 38, is a three-division world champion. He has eight world titles in three different boxing weight classes. - VVP, GMA News
