Six people, including two children aged one and four,  were rescued after a motor banca in a fluvial parade in Angono town in Rizal province capsized Thursday, the Coast Guard said Friday.

Coast Guard spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Algier Ricafrente said the unregistered banca capsized after it was hit by a service flat boat of the municipality.

Ricafrente said the incident occurred at around 9 a.m., before the start of a Pagoda fluvial parade.

"The passengers of the unregistered motor banca without outrigger were awaiting for the parade to start when the service flat boat suddenly crashed on them," the Coast Guard said on its website Friday afternoon.

Coast Guard Laguna De Bay station and Metro Manila Special Operations Unit members rescued the six persons, who were identified as:

  • Reynaldo Andres, 31
  • Jovy Andres, 30
  • Aimee Andres, 18
  • Reynaldo Jeffrey Aguinie, 13
  • Mark Nash, 4
  • Andres Jr., 1

All the rescued people were transferred aboard the Special Operations Unit’s rubber boat and decided to join the fluvial parade. — RSJ, GMA News
