LA Lakers center Pau Gasol cancels PHL trip, explains to Pinoys via Facebook

National Basketball Association (NBA) superstar Pau Gasol, citing recent developments in the league, canceled a planned visit to the Philippines this week—but not before recording a video to his Philippine fans via Facebook.

Gasol posted a 78-second video on his Facebook page where he explained training camp is to start soon, and he may have to "postpone" his Philippine visit.

"Obviously I would have loved to be there, I would have loved to experience your country, get to know it, interact with you, but it won't happen this time. I promise you the next opportunity that I have, the next chance, I'll be ready to make the trip a few days and enjoy a great stay with you," he said in his Facebook video message.

Gasol added that he had been planning to visit the Philippines on December 1, but said the "sad news" is that he will not be able to make it.

Gasol cited an upcoming Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) vote, following a new labor agreement in the NBA.

The Los Angeles Lakers big man said he was to visit the Philippines this week to do charity work and distribute hearing aids.

Gasol also said they will start training camp "very soon."

"We're all very excited to have a chance to go back and play basketball and do what we love. I'm sure you're excited to watch us play again," he said.

Gasol thanked Filipino fans for their support via Twitter, saying he will keep in touch through social media.

"Thanks for your support, you're always great, see you soon," he said.

Gasol also apologized to Philippine-based coaches who he was to meet during his Philippine visit, including Talk 'N Text coach Chot Reyes.

"Sorry I can't make it Coach, but looking forward to meeting during a future visit. Good luck with the season!"  Gasol tweeted. — Rodneil Quiteles/OMG/JVP, GMA News
