Beckham, 2011 MLS champion Galaxy arrive in Manila
Hundreds of shrieking fans greeted David Beckham Thursday afternoon at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) as the British football celebrity and the Los Angeles Galaxy are in Manila for the second leg of the team's three-nation Asia-Pacific Tour.
Beckham and the Galaxy arrived at the NAIA Terminal 2 via an Air New Zealand chartered flight from Jakarta, Indonesia.
The Galaxy and the Azkals are currently holding a press briefing at the Makati Shangri-La hotel to discuss details of the team's friendly against the Philippine Azkals on Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The Galaxy began their tour in Jakarta on Wednesday where they played against Indonesia, a team composed of their senior squad and a selection from the U23 national roster.
Irish striker Robbie Kean lifted the Galaxy to a 1-0 win over Indonesia in front of a sparse crowd at the 88,000-seat Gelora Bung Karno stadium.
The Galaxy, which won the 2011 US Major League Soccer Cup, will play against the Philippine Azkals in a football friendly on Saturday.
Their next stop is in Melbourne, Australia on December 6.
Beckham, 36, is one of the world’s highest-paid football players and helped English professional football club Manchester United win six Premier League titles, the Football Association Cup twice and the 1999 UEFA Champions League.
He also played for Preston North End, Real Madrid and A.C. Milan before signing up with the LA Galaxy in 2007. — JVP, GMA News
