Pacquiao: Talks with Mayweather camp moving forward

December 2, 2011 10:47pm
Boxing star Manny Pacquiao said Friday that only a few more kinks are being ironed out before his long-awaited showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr. pushes through in May next year.

"May konting inaayos na lang bago matuloy 'yung laban," said the 32-year-old Pacquiao in an interview from Sarangani, where he sits as congressman of the province’s lone district.

It was Pacquiao’s first clear admission that negotiations for his possible May 5 mega-fight with the undefeated Mayweather Jr. are moving forward.

The reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion said last week that both camps have began exploratory talks again after two previous meetings bogged down primarily due to disagreements on drug testing.

Pacquiao, the only eight-division world champion, said with the drug testing issue already been settled, it will only be a matter of time before he and the 34-year-old Mayweather Jr. sign the contract that could formalize the bout many believed that would go down as the biggest and richest in boxing history.

Handa na kami. Kapag pinirmahan niya na 'yung kontrata, pipirmahan ko na rin 'yung kontrata,” said the Filipino boxing icon. — JVP, GMA News
