Phish attack claims Amazon account about to expire
A new phishing attack is making the rounds of cyberspace, telling recipients their accounts with online retailer Amazon are about to expire.
Computer security firm Sophos said the message urged recipients to confirm "wether" they wished to continue to use the account or risk deactivation.
"Cybercriminals have widely spammed out an attack via email, posing as Amazon, in an attempt to trick users into handing over their credentials," Sophos said in a blog post.
It said those who fall for the message are asked to download and complete the form attached with the email.
Sophos urged recipients not to reply to this email, adding its products detect the attached file as Troj/Phish-AZ and intercept the message as spam.
"If you made the mistake of opening the attachment, you would be faced with a web form which asks you for your credit card details, date of birth and so forth before uploading them to a remote web server," it said. — ELR, GMA News
