Flour millers on Thursday reassured the public there will be no price increase in their products until at least the end of 2011.
But Philippine Association of Flour Millers executive director Ric Pinca said they could not assure stable prices of bread if prices of its other ingredients go up.
"Prices of flour have not been moving and there is no indication it will go up soon," he said in an interview on dzBB radio.
"Sigurado tayong mura ang tinapay natin sa noche buena at media noche," he added.
On the other hand, he contested calls for his group to bring down prices of flour, saying flour prices have not gone up since July this year.
He said flour millers could not afford to bring down prices to last year's levels since world prices of wheat are still double last year's prices.
Pinca said that while prices of wheat had slightly gone down to $8 per bushel this year, this is still double the $4 per bushel in 2010.
"Kung tumaas ang presyo ng ibang ingredients yan ang sabihin nilang dahilan at yan pababain nila," he said. — LBG, GMA News
