December 15, 2011 12:53pm

(Updated 3:26 p.m.) A bomb went off aboard a motorized rickshaw near a municipal hall packed with visitors in the southern Philippines Thursday, killing the two men on board,  police said.

The bomb exploded less than a kilometer (half a mile) away from the town hall in Datu Odin Sinsuat town in Maguindanao, a violence plagued southern province where feuding clans and militants all operate.

"The (rickshaw) was moving when it suddenly exploded. The two people aboard were killed," provincial police chief Senior Superintendent Marcelo Pintac told AFP.

Earlier, Director Felicisimo Khu Jr., head of integrated operations in Western Mindanao, said authorities are still gathering leads on the perpetrators and their motive.

Asked if the police suspect any particular group behind the incident, Khu said: "As of now, wala pa." — with Agence France-Presse/LBG/RSJ, GMA News
