The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) urged Filipinos to donate blood for emergencies that may occur during the holidays. PRC Secretary General Gwendolyn Pang urged the heads of the 77 PRC blood centers and facilities nationwide to remain active in recruiting volunteer blood donors. In an article posted Sunday on the PRC website, Pang also urged them to ensure that all blood types are available anytime the need arises. "Any healthy individual can give blood, male or female between 18 and 65 years old. You may visit PRC National Blood Center on Bonifacio Drive Port Area Manila or any regional blood centers or facilities nearest you," the PRC said. PRC chairman and former Senator Richard Gordon noted fewer people give blood during holiday season. Gordon said that while the nation remains focused on the effects of tropical storm "Sendong" (international name: Washi) on Mindanao and the Visayas, there are other urgent concerns that must be addressed. "The most precious gift you can give to your fellowmen is a part of yourself. Give blood on Christmas," he said. - VVP, GMA News
