Smog hampers visibility on Roxas Blvd in Metro Manila
Smog greeted many motorists along Roxas Boulevard in southern Metro Manila on the first day of 2012.
The smog hampered visibility and prompted many motorists to switch on their hazard lights, radio dzBB's Denver Trinidad reported.
Several motorists and residents in Quezon City also noticed smog in many streets in the first hours of the New Year, the report said.
Despite appeals from authorities about the pollution caused by fireworks, many Filipinos welcomed the New Year by lighting firecrackers since Saturday.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said there may not be enough rain in Metro Manila on Sunday to wash away the pollution.
However, PAGASA forecaster Manny Mendoza said it is possible strong winds will blow the smog towards the West Philippine Sea. — LBG/HS, GMA News
